Larian Studios Announce a Fresh Divinity, Declaring it Their Largest RPG to Date

The buzz around The Game Awards reached a fever pitch, especially after presenter Geoff Keighley posted a mysterious image of a strange statue. The mystery has been revealed. Larian Studios is working on a completely new Divinity game.

Announced as Divinity, the game was presented with a bold trailer featuring memorable imagery, from a burning man to scenes of revelry and the very unleashing of hell.

A Different Direction

For those anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. Larian clarified that a follow-up to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not currently in development.

Nevertheless, the developer described this new Divinity as a continuation of the core franchise. This choice of words implies that the team might be building a faster-paced experience as opposed to another turn-based title. Currently, we can only guess, as only a announcement clip is available.

The Legacy of Divinity

The Divinity series is highly rated and arguably it sparked the modern wave of complex computer role-playing games. These games are known for intricate stories, branching plots, and flexible progression—traits that recently found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its universe is traditional swords and sorcery, what makes Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust bestowed upon the player.

Where many modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is full of unique possibilities that are viable by choosing a distinct build with a unique decision path.

The series is also famously open-ended, allowing players to improvise in narrative and gameplay. Most missions can be approached in diverse methods, sometimes in lateral fashion.

  • You might progress the story because you recalled something a non-human character said.
  • Or, you could defeat a foe by teleporting a glob of lava in a unorthodox way.

More to Come

It is these creative systems that lead fans and critics to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games ever made. Now, fans can anticipate another adventure in this esteemed franchise.
